Alecia provided companionship, moral support, and helpful suggestions during the long final days waiting for labor to begin and through the early hours of labor. She worked as a seamless partner with my husband, stepping in to help or leaving us alone together as needed, and all the while taking notes to give me later or keeping my family updated on our progress. When I decided to use a doula, I was already well into my third trimester and didn't know quite what to expect. The first meeting with Alecia was so helpful and informative, and my husband and I were more comfortable and confident knowing that hiring Alecia was the right thing to do. The morning that my contractions started, I called Alecia at 4:00 a.m., and she answered and guided me through my questions to determine if this was real labor. After a few hours, I called her back and she came over to be with me during my contractions. We got to the hospital and I was already 4 centimeters and 90% effaced. Alecia was so excited to hear that and her encouragement helped me realize that I was having a baby that day! My husband and Alecia were by my side the entire day making me feel as comfortable as possible by massaging my feet and hands. Also, Alecia suggested that I spend some time in the shower, which totally helped ease the contractions since I did not take any drugs to ease the pain. After I had completely dilated, it was time to push and that was the hardest part for me since my baby was in the posterior position. The doctor and nurses told me I wasn't pushing hard enough and I got really frustrated because I was exhausted, and I thought Dylan would never come out. I really wanted to give up and take some pain medicine or get a C-section or whatever would get Dylan out of me, but Alecia assured me that I was doing a great job and that I was almost done. By the time he was crowning, Alecia brought over a mirror to put in front of me to help me see how far I was. It really helped, and after 3-and-a-half hours of pushing, the nurse ran out of the room to get the doctor and Alecia and I looked at each other because we knew that Dylan was coming out right then! My son jumped into the world and landed on the bed in front of me with Alecia on one side and my husband on the other side. My husband ran out to get the doctor and Alecia picked up my son and placed him on my chest and at that moment, I was the happiest I have ever been! Even with the pain, it was all worth it! I tell everyone that I could not have done it without Alecia and my husband. She is worth every penny!

Alecia worked with us as a postpartum doula in the first few weeks of our twins' life. We had no idea what to expect when we brought the babies home and Alecia really eased the transition to our new life with babies. I was recovering from a C-section and we have no family close by to help so we really needed some extra help. Alecia was very supportive of my decision to breastfeed. As well as taking care of the girls, she made sure that I was eating and resting enough - this was really important in those early sleep-deprived days. She also helped us with our babies' first bath, a nerve-wracking experience for us. On a practical level, she is super efficient, she really helped keep things in shape at home - helping with laundry, making mean avocado and chicken sandwiches, and general tidying and cleaning. Alecia has a wonderful calming presence that really helped us settle in back home. She has a very lovely manner that helped us get through those first few weeks.
